On a Mac

NCSS and PASS on a Mac

Here we look at some options for running PASS and NCSS statistical software for Mac users.

Can NCSS or PASS Software be run on a Mac?

Although NCSS and PASS software are Windows products, there are at least three potential ways that (any) Windows software programs may be run on a Mac. The available options depend on the Mac processor.

Parallels Desktop

For a fee, products such as Parallels Desktop will allow the user to run Windows and Mac OS applications side-by-side. However, Parallels Desktop will only work with Macs with Intel processors. Macs stopped using Intel processors around 2020.

Apple Boot Camp

Apple Boot Camp differs from Parallels Desktop in that Windows and macOS are not run side-by-side, but instead gives the option of booting up the Mac using either Windows or macOS. This functionality can only be used on Macs with Intel processors. Macs stopped using Intel processors around 2020. There is no additional cost for Apple Boot Camp, but you must have a Windows license. As with Parallels Desktop, any Windows application (not just NCSS or PASS) can be run on your Mac when you start up in Windows.

Windows 365

Any device can be used as a Windows cloud PC through the device browser. PASS or NCSS or any other Windows software can be installed and used by renting a Windows cloud PC with Windows 365.

"I purchased NCSS last week and have been extremely impressed with the product so far. The documentation is superb... Especially strong is the importing of files from Excel and other statistics programs..."

Gary Brager, Baltimore County Public Schools

"PASS is a great program. It does so much and is easy to use. It’s much better than the other sample size programs I’ve used—it has helped me greatly in my research."
