Description:
The Output Window is used to display the results of a run of one of the procedures in PASS. Each time a procedure is run, the output from the previous run is cleared to give place for the new output. If you wish to keep the current output you may save it to a rich text file or you may add the output to the output gallery.
We will examine the Output Window in sections, beginning with the navigation pane and output viewing area. Then we will look at the menu, the tool bar, the bottom bar, the help, and finally the Output Gallery.
For illustration of the attributes of the output window, we will look at results of running Two-Sample T-Test procedure.
The numerous sections of the output are easily viewed by clicking on the desired title in the Navigation Pane. You can mouse over the titles to see the full title if they are cut off by the right edge of the pane. Or you can make the pane wider to view the full section titles, but this usually narrows the viewing space. The Navigation Pane can also be hidden to maximize the viewing area. You can click anywhere in the output and determine which section you are in by the gray background that appears behind the section title in the navigation pane.
The titles and headers of each page may be adjusted by changing the Report Options. You can add or remove titles, page numbers, or other expressions from this location. These options also permit the specification of page size, orientation, and whether or not to include page breaks.
To view or save a plot, simply double-click the plot. The size of the plot viewer window dictates the viewing size of the plot. Click the ‘Save As’ button to save the plot in one of a variety of file formats.
Turning now to the menu, the file menu items are used to clear, open, save, or print the output. The edit menu items perform text editing actions that you see in most word processors. The View menu items allow you to show or hide the bars, pane, and ruler. The View menu also gives all the options that are in the bottom bar for setting up the output viewing area.
The Window menu items are used to open other procedures or to show other windows.
The button bar gives easy access to a few of the items of the menus. The buttons on the left are for commonly used file menu items. The buttons in the middle give quick access to all the primary windows of the PASS system. This button bar may also be hidden to increase the viewing area of the window.
The buttons of the bottom bar can be used to advance the page of the output or to change the output view. The output can be viewed as separate pages or as a continuous page. Pages can also be set to auto-fit to the window size. A specific page size may also be defined here.
For additional help on the output window, click the help button or select ‘How to Use this Window’ from the Help menu.
It is often useful to use the output gallery to compare the results of one run to another, or to hold the results of a series of procedure runs. You can add the current output to the output gallery by clicking the ‘Add Output to Gallery’ button. Or you can check the ‘Auto Add’ button to add the output to the output gallery after every run.
Click the Gallery button to view the contents of the Output Gallery. The Output Gallery Window looks just like the output window, and has most of the same features. The contents of the gallery are easily navigated with the navigation pane. The primary headings correspond to full procedure runs. The expand and collapse buttons of the navigation pane may be useful in the output gallery. This gallery may also be saved as a rich text file.
